Join us in welcoming our newest team members to BSE Structural Engineers!  We are excited to have several of our previous interns join our team as full-time employees.

Nathan Bertrand has been working as an intern at BSE since December and joined BSE as a full-time structural engineer after graduating in May.  Nathan graduated from the University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC) with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and will complete his Master of Science in Civil Engineering with a Structural emphasis from UMKC in 2018.  Nathan has prior intern experience doing civil site work and special inspections. In his free time, Nathan enjoys playing music and watching movies.  Nathan and his girlfriend, Kaitlin also welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Rhea Charlotte on July 14th.  Congratulations!

BSE welcomes back Ryan Duren as a structural engineer.  Ryan graduated from the University of Nebraska with a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering in 2016 and a Master of Architectural Engineering in May 2017.  Ryan interned at BSE the summer of 2015.  Previously, he worked as a construction management intern with a general contractor, then as a 3D modeler for an architecture firm. Ryan also interned with a firm in Milwaukee, WI. Ryan stays active and enjoys playing golf, watching sports, and listening to music.

BSE welcomes back Alek Norman as a design technician.  Alek graduated from University of Central Missouri with a Bachelor of Science in Drafting and Design with an emphasis in Structural Drafting in May 2017. Alek worked as an intern with BSE last summer. Outside of the office, Alek likes to spend time with his family and friends.  He enjoys playing golf and spending time outdoors.

Chris Philpy joined BSE in December as a structural engineer.  Chris graduated from Missouri University of Science and Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in December 2012 and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering Emphasis in Structural Engineering in December 2015.  Chris has previous experience as a structural bridge engineer.  Chris is a huge sports fan and enjoys watching and/or playing football, basketball, and golf. He also enjoys playing board games and woodworking.

Meet our Summer Interns

BSE Structural Engineers is pleased to introduce our two summer interns.

Connor Lewer is a structural engineering intern and will graduate from Kansas State University with an Architectural Engineering major at Kansas State University in May 2019.  Connor is from the Kansas City area and previously interned last summer with KC Master Companies.  Connor is the President of Pi Kappa Phi at KSU.  Some of Connor’s interests include woodworking and mountain biking.

Sidney Snyder is also a structural engineering intern and will graduate from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering in May 2019.  Sidney is from Mound City, Kansas and has shadowed at multiple engineering firms.  At KSU, she is the Fundraising Chair for Architectural Engineering Institute, a member of Engineers without Borders, and is also involved with Christian Challenge.  Sidney enjoys spending time with friends and family, and also enjoys many sports and outdoor activities.

BSE’s Newest Licensed Engineer

Congratulations to Josh Huenefeld on becoming BSE’s newest licensed engineer.  Josh recently passed the structural engineering exams to become a licensed professional engineer and structural engineer in the state of Kansas.  Josh was an intern with BSE during his last summer of college in 2011 and then joined BSE full time after graduating in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Architectural Engineering from Kansas State University.  Josh is a valuable part of the growing BSE team as a project manager and structural engineer.  Some of Josh’s recent projects include Rock Chalk Stadium and Recreation Center, City Center Lenexa, Liberty Health Healthy Living Center, Lone Elm 716 and Lukas Liquor.

Meet BSE Structural Engineer’s Summer Interns

BSE Structural Engineers has loved having four structural engineering interns and one design technician intern join our team this summer.

Colten Johnson is a structural engineering intern and will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering from Kansas State University in May of 2017. Previously, Colten had an internship at EBH & Associates overseeing concrete pours and providing structural detailing.  Colten is from Marion, KS and is actively involved in his church and fraternity, and has an interest in learning about other cultures/religions.   Colten enjoys spending time with his wife, Andrea, and traveling.

Kelsey Hailey is a structural engineering intern and will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering from Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) in spring 2018.  Kelsey is on the MSOE Women’s Soccer Team.  Last summer Kelsey was an intern at Faith Technologies.  Kelsey is from Overland Park, Kansas and in her free time she likes to wakeboard, ski, spend time outdoors and hang out with her friends and family.

Mary Kaster is a structural engineering intern and will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering from Kansas State University in May of 2019.  At college, Mary is actively involved in Society of Women Engineers, Women in Engineering, and her sorority.  Mary is from Overland Park, Kansas and enjoys going to the lake with family and spending time with friends.

Veronica Vest is a structural engineering intern and will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering with an emphasis in structures from Oklahoma State University in May of 2017.  Last summer Veronica worked at Cromwell Architects Engineers in Little Rock, Arkansas.  Veronica is the Vice President of both the Chi Epsilon and Architectural Engineering Institute chapters and is also the developer and head of Archiletics (architecture athletics). Veronica is in charge of organizing and drafting all architecture intramural teams and pick-up games.  Veronica is from Hot Springs, Arkansas and enjoys playing sports, camping or painting in her free time.

Alek Norman is a Design Technician intern and will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Design & Drafting Technology from the University of Central Missouri in May 2017.  Alek is actively involved in intramural sports on campus.  He is from O’Fallon, Missouri and enjoys spending time with his friends and family.

Structural Engineer Casey Receives Masters Degree!

Congratulations to structural engineer Casey Stallbaumer for receiving her Master of Science in Architectural Engineering on May 13, 2016 from Kansas State University. For her Master of Science degree Casey completed the following thesis: Design Comparison of Hybrid Masonry Types for Seismic Lateral Force Resistance for Low-Rise Buildings.

Casey joined BSE as a structural engineer in June 2015 and had worked the previous two summers as an intern.  While working full time, Casey completed her Master of Science degree and was able to maintain her outstanding 4.0 GPA.  Way to go Casey!

Congratulations to Cassie!

Congratulations to our intern, Cassie Barger on her recent graduation from University of Central Missouri (UCM) and joining BSE as a full-time Design Technician.  Cassie graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Drafting and Design with an emphasis in Structural drafting. Cassie has been an intern at BSE since September 30, 2014 and a valued part of the BSE team, so we are excited to have Cassie join us as a full-time employee. While at UCM, Cassie was actively involved in American Institute of Building Design (AIBD) and American Design Drafting Association (ADDA).  Outside of work, Cassie enjoys spending time with her boyfriend, Jordan, paintballing, gardening, and spending time with their puppy, Mr. Buddy Boy.  Cassie also loves crafting projects for around the house, spending time with her family and friends, and bakes yummy treats for the BSE team!

Welcome Travis to BSE!

BSE is excited to announce that Travis Jennings has joined our team.  Travis graduated from Kansas State University in May 2012 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering. Travis’s previous experience includes working in the Kansas City office of Wallace Engineering where he focused on elaborate façade and cladding systems. Prior to that, Travis worked at CEO Structural Engineers where they focused on 3rd party reviews, structural inspections, and existing building evaluations. Outside of work, Travis enjoys working on his classic car, playing video games, K-state sports, and spending time with his family & friends.  Travis and his wife, Marilyn are also expecting a baby girl in September.  Congratulations Travis and welcome to BSE!

Structural Engineer Brad Ledford Welcomes New Addition

The employees of BSE would like to congratulate structural engineer Brad Ledford and his wife Jessica on the birth of their son, Reese Alexander.  Reese arrived on February 25, 2016 at 9:24 am, weighing in at 8 lb. 13 oz. and 20 inches long.  Welcome Reese!

BSE Welcomes Two Structural Engineers!

BSE Structural Engineers welcomes back Caitlin Anderson as a Structural Engineer.  This past summer, Caitlin worked at BSE as a structural engineering intern, so we are excited to have her return to the BSE team.  Caitlin graduated in December 2015 from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln (Omaha Campus) with a Masters in Architectural Engineering with an emphasis in structures.  Previously, Caitlin interned with the United States Army Corps of Engineers for two years, primarily working with construction documentation and assisting on various military and civilian projects.  Outside of work, Caitlin loves spending time outdoors, getting together with friends, and her goal for this year is to learn how to cook.  With recently moving here from Omaha, Caitlin is excited to further explore the Kansas City area.

Todd Blackburn joins BSE as a Structural Engineer.  Todd graduated from Kansas State University in May 2014 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Architectural Engineering with an emphasis in structural engineering.  Upon graduating, Todd worked at Professional Engineering Consultants, PA (PEC) in Wichita, Kansas as a Structural Design Engineer from May 2014 to December 2015. Todd previously worked as a Structural Engineering Intern at PEC in the Lawrence office the summer of 2013.  When not working, Todd enjoys music and going to live concerts, sailing (whether it be on a lake or the ocean), and watching all of the Kansas City and K-State sports teams win.

BSE Structural Engineers support Salvation Army Angel Tree Program

Salvation Army Angel Tree Donations

BSE Structural Engineers employees were excited to spread holiday cheer through participating in the Salvation Army Angel Tree program.  In total, BSE sponsored 20 angels and had fun shopping for new toys and clothing for children of needy families in the Kansas City area.  The Salvation Army Angel Tree program will provide toys for over 10,000 children this year in the metro area.  Our team was proud to be a part of making wishes come true for these children!
